A Primer on Margaret Atwood

Margaret Atwood, the famous award winning Canadian author, has been in the news recently as she is fighting library cuts in Toronto. She used her Twitter account to urge her followers to sign an online petition to get the message across to City Hall.

Councillor Doug Ford is not impressed with this, however, because he  does not know who she is. He was recently quoted as saying “Good luck to Margaret Atwood. I don’t even know her. She could walk right by me, I wouldn’t have a clue who she is.”

Margaret Atwood has written over 50 volumes of poetry, fiction and non fiction, such as Oryx and Crake, and A Handmaid’s Tale.

However, for Doug Ford I would suggest something a little closer to his reading level- my favourite children’s book by Atwood- Princess Prunella and the Purple Peanut. It’s recommended for children ages 5-8 so he may need to find a grownup to help him with some of the words.
