Hi! I’m participating in the Armchair BEA this year. While I enjoy reading and reviewing books, I’m fairly new to the book blogging community and I’m looking forward to meeting new book bloggers and participating more. Here are the five questions I picked from the Armchair BEA introductions lists (and, of course, the answers!)
1. Please tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? How long have you been blogging? Why did you get into blogging?
My real name is Cathy, I am a student and I work with children. I started this blog in 2009, although it was mostly unused until March/April of 2011. I started this blog because I really enjoy reading books and I wanted to be able to share books that I loved, complain about books that I hated and have a place to talk about books and books news with other book lovers.
2. What are you currently reading?
I’m currently reading Minding Frankie by Maeve Binchy. It’s a great book so far. I love Binch’s writing style, and she writes the kind of book that you read while curled up in a comfy chair with a cup of tea. I have been reading a lot of dystopian novels lately, as well as other books where animals/people are being hurt or dying and other sad events and I need a break from all the depressing books I seem to be picking up lately.
3. Tell us one non-book-related thing that everyone reading your blog may not know about you.
I really enjoy creating things. I make and sell chalkboards on Etsy and I enjoy other hands on activities like creating homemade play dough and doing science activities with kids (day care/babysitting/niece). I’m much better at using the kitchen to make a volcano than to make a meal!
4. If you could eat dinner with any author or character, who would it be and why?
I would want to eat dinner with Frank McCourt, the author of Angela’s Ashes. Though he was born into poverty he worked incredibly hard to get an education and become a teacher and author, his life is very inspiring. He lived such an interesting life and worked hard to get through so many hardships that I think it would make for a fascinating conversation. Unfortunately he’s passed on but his books really make me feel as if I knew him.
5. Have your reading tastes changed since you started blogging? How?
I have a very eclectic taste in books and have been told frequently that I like “weird” or “random” books (Co-worker:”What are you reading?” me:”A book about Russian orphanages” Co-worker: *long blank stare* “That’s so…weird”)
Since I started blogging I have been reading far more YA fiction- there are many quality books in YA and I have been finding some great reads. I have been picking up a lot of dystopian novels recently, this is a genre that I wasn’t very interested in before blogging.
Thanks for visiting!
oohh, making chalkboards sounds cool! I love those things! I have a small (albeit very cheap one) stuck to my fridge for shopping lists! At least that’s what it’s supposed to be for!

They are fun to make!
I’ve started reading more YA since I’ve been blogging. Not familiar with Binchy and nothing wrong with reading the weird books
Absolutely, I’m proud to be weird 🙂 Binchy is a great writer and has written many books, you should check her out.
hello Cathy! Making chalk boards sounds so cool, I never even thought about that. I love that you’re so creative! So nice to meet you.
Nice to meet you too!
I love how many people are saying that since book blogging they’ve discovered that they like YA. It’s awesome.
my intro post.
It really is! I went to highschool in a very small town and our school and town libraries didn’t carry YA so I didn’t discover it until after my teen years, but love it now.
I love M. Binchy! For me it started with Circle of Friends (I was so upset when I watched the movie and they changed the end). I got very passionate about it. However, I have enjoyed many of her books and her writing style is so very unique.
I haven’t read Angela Ashes but many of my friends think F.M. is a genius! So good choice there!
Great to meet you!
Nice to meet you too! I haven’t seen that movie but I should check it out.
LOL, russian orphanages. I never tell people what I’m reading, don’t like the funny stares I get. 🙂 Now, what books have you hated lately?
Most recently I hated a memoir called Superdad, just didn’t like it at all.
I didn’t even know that it was possible to hand-make chalkboards! That it seriously REALLY cool! I’m not much of a crafty person, so I really admire people that are crafty. =)
It was great getting to know you more! Have fun during Armchair BEA!

Thank you! Happy BEA week.
I’m crafty too. I mostly like to crochet but I do other things. I usually need a lighter book after something too heavy.
I’d love to learn to crochet- tried it and it did not work out!
I adore the name of your blog, it’s fantastic!
Thanks!
Isn’t it wonderful to work with children? They keep me young, I think. I, too, appreciate Maeve Binchy’s writing. I haven’t read anything of hers since Tara Road, but I remember feeling the same way you’ve described her in this post. Basically, she does make you feel cozy, and that everything will turn out all right. Happy BEA Week!
They definitely do. happy BEA week to you too1
Yay! I like reading your answers – they were really interesting!
Good on you for creating! I always love the art of creating but am just no good at it myself – too clumsy! I much prefer to make a meal in my kitchen – even when I have breakdowns when the food goes wrong, haha.
I think that taking a break from dystopians and other heavy books is always needed – just as sometimes a nice break from YA is good! So I’m glad you’re reading a book that allows you to do so!
And yay for eclectic taste! Those odder, weirder books need more love! It’s one of the reasons I read a lot of indie books – some of them are real downers but then you come across a gem and realise it’s all been worth it! xD
Thanks for commenting on my intro and for sharing yours!
Faye
I think making a meal counts as creating- you just use different materials! Thanks for stopping by.
I know those long blank stares all too well! I usually get them when I tell someone I’m reading the memoir of a Holocaust survivor or a story about serials killers in the 20th century (it comes from watching entirely too much Criminal Minds, I swear). *shrugs* I read weird books and I love it!
It’s nice to meet you 🙂 Be sure to stop by and check out my intro post!
Glad to know there are others like me! I’ll swing by to check out your intro post.
I can’t wait to answer some of these. I will have to go look at your chalkboards on etsy because I created one and it didn’t turn out so hot so maybe I’ll just buy one. : )
I’m looking forwards to reading your answers! The chalkboards take patience (why isn’t it dry yet?!?) and quite a bit of sanding.
Always fun to see what people will say about our reading choices… mine just stare at me and say “Another book eh?” LOL
